The saying “Once a Dino, always a Dino,” has never been more prevalent than this past weekend at Spring Training Camp for the University of Calgary Dinos football team. Some familiar faces have been helping University of Calgary Dinos Head Coach Wayne Harris and his staff at McMahon Stadium this past weekend.

The Dinos have been fortunate many current Canadian Football League players that are former Dinos assist them with workouts. Various Canadian Football League teams have been represented.

Offensive linemen Ryan Sceviour (Calgary Stampeders), Logan Bandy (Saskatchewan Roughriders) and Peter Nicastro (Toronto Argonauts) have been assisting offensive line coach Paul Carson. Running back Jeshrawn Antwi (Montreal Alouettes) has been helping running back coach Gino Divincentis, linebackers Micah Teitz (Saskatchewan Roughriders) and Adam Konar (Edmonton Eskimos) have been assisting with linebacker coach Sam Hurl, while Montreal Alouettes receiver Jake Harty has helped the receiving group.

Defensive Coordinator Matt Berry is appreciative of the former players making the effort to help with Spring Camp.

“The former players coming back shows the importance of the alumni connection to our program. Having these players come back shows they enjoyed their time as a Dino. They have learned the importance of giving back. It sets a reachable goal to our current players one day they can go the next level,” stated Berry.

The players also enjoy coming back to help for a variety of reasons.

“It is good to give back and help where needed. Being at Camp helps me get into the football mode,” stated Sceviour who starts on the Stampeders offensive line. Ryan graduated with Economics degree from the U of C and has attained his real estate license.

For Antwi it is about mentorship and giving back. “I had mentors help me. I remember getting help from players that were in the CFL such as Matt Walter, Steven Lumbala, and Anthony Woodson when I was with the Dinos. I want to be a mentor to these players,” stated Antwi who graduated from the U of C with Education and Arts degrees and substitute teaches in the off-season.

The Dinos are grateful these players donate their time giving back to the program and being role models for future players.
