University of Calgary Dinos Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator Matt Berry has a busy May.
Berry attended the annual East-West Bowl during the first week of May in Hamilton, ON., which featured the top Canadian Football League prospects for the 2023 draft. This was the first East-West Bowl since 2019 as the 2020 and 2021 East-West Bowls were canceled to due to COVID 19 protocols. Berry was joined in Hamilton by defensive back Jacob Biggs and defensive lineman Josh Hyer, both members of the 2019 Vanier Cup Championship team along with University of Calgary special teams coach Nathan Mollard. All four were part of the West team that was coached by former University of Saskatchewan Head Coach Brian Towriss. Berry coached the defensive line while Mollard coached Special Teams.
On May 9 Berry is headed to Saskatoon, SK., and will serve as Guest Coach for the Saskatchewan Roughriders under Head Coach Craig Dickenson. Berry will remain with the Riders until May 25 when they break camp at the University of Saskatchewan. This marks the second time Berry has served as CFL Guest Training Camp coach having done it previously with the Calgary Stampeders in 2018.
Berry is excited to work with Saskatchewan Head Coach Craig Dickenson, his staff and with professional athletes. Matt will have some former University of Calgary Dino players with him at Training Camp. Micah Teitz, Mike Edem, Jake Harty and Logan Bandy will be present with the Green & White when training camp begins.
“I am very excited to work with a new organization and see how they operate. I will get to see some of our former players at the next level in action and this is a great experience,” states Berry who will be with the Green & White from May 9 to 25 through their first pre-season game.
